If you’re new to Botox, it might be a little intimidating trying to figure out the cost per unit and how many Botox units you’ll need to see results. Botox priced at $10 to $15 per unit is normal, but it’s going to take more than one unit to get rid of your most troublesome fine lines and wrinkles.
In truth, everyone is different, so there’s no right answer for how many units you’ll need until you visit for a consultation with a doctor or esthetician. However, the manufacturers of Botox and the FDA have their own recommendations and averages for the amount of Botox units needed.
How many Botox units do you need?
Botox comes in doses between 50 and 200 units per syringe. So how many units does it take? Allergan, the manufacturer of Botox, recommends four units each in five sites on the forehead, totaling 20 units. Additionally, 20 units have been approved by the FDA for the 11’s – the area between the eyes. Everyone’s forehead is different. Your gender, treatment areas, and the strength of your facial muscles are all factors that will play into how many Botox units you’ll need. In the beginning, your doctor might start out with a lower dosage in each injection site to see how that works for you and then go from there for future appointments.
Average units per area
- 11’s between your eyes – 20 to 30 units
- Horizontal lines on the forehead – 6 to 20 units
- Crows feet around the eyes – 6 to 15 units
Depending on what areas you’re treating and how many units you’ll need, the price of Botox can fluctuate from $200 to $500. In general, Botox is meant to last for about four months. However, your first treatment could wear off a little sooner. After your first follow-up appointment, you should expect to see the results for longer.
