Before Your Treatment
Consultation: Your journey begins with a consultation in a relaxed, low-pressure environment. Our practitioners understand that this is a new experience for you, and they will take the time to address any questions or concerns you may have. During this initial appointment, your practitioner will discuss your aesthetic goals, assess your skin, and review your medical history. This is a great opportunity to ask anything about the procedure, the products used, and the expected outcomes. Remember, the consultation is typically free, so take advantage of this chance to get all your questions answered.
Preparation:
To prepare for your treatment, your practitioner may recommend avoiding certain medications or supplements that can increase bruising, such as aspirin or fish oil, for a few days before your appointment. They may also advise you to avoid alcohol 24 hours prior to your treatment to reduce the risk of bruising. Additionally, some people may choose to discontinue blood thinners well in advance, depending on their doctor’s advice.
During the Treatment
The Procedure: On the day of your treatment, the procedure is typically quick and straightforward. Your practitioner will cleanse the treatment area and discuss your comfort level with any numbing options. We typically do not use topical numbing cream for Botox injections, as the discomfort is minimal. However, we will work with you to ensure you are comfortable throughout the procedure. Using a fine needle, they will inject the neuromodulator into specific muscles. The number of injections and the precise locations will depend on your treatment goals.
Discomfort: Most patients describe the discomfort from the injections as minimal. You might feel a slight pinch or sting, but it’s generally tolerable. The procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes, making it a convenient option even for a lunch break. Remember, ice packs can be helpful in minimizing any discomfort after the procedure.
After Your Treatment
Immediate Aftercare: After your treatment, you may experience slight redness, swelling, or tenderness at the injection sites. These effects are typically mild and resolve on their own within a few hours. Your practitioner will provide you with specific aftercare instructions, which may include avoiding strenuous exercise, hot baths, and lying down for the first 24 hours.
Results: While you may notice some initial effects within a few days, it typically takes 1 to 2 weeks for the full results to become visible. The treated area will gradually smooth out, with wrinkles and fine lines diminishing over time.
Potential Side Effects
While serious side effects are rare, some common and minor effects include temporary bruising, swelling, or mild headache. These are usually short-lived and should subside within a few days.
What to Watch For: If you experience any unusual symptoms or signs of an allergic reaction, such as severe swelling or difficulty breathing, contact your practitioner immediately. It’s always better to err on the side of caution and seek professional advice if you have any concerns.
Follow-Up and Maintenance
Follow-Up Appointment: A follow-up appointment may be scheduled a few weeks after your initial treatment to assess your results and make any necessary adjustments. This ensures you’re satisfied with the outcome and helps maintain optimal results. Our providers tend to be more conservative with dosage, especially for patients who are new to us and new to the product. We can always add more during your follow-up appointment if needed, but starting with a lower dose ensures a natural look and minimizes the risk of side effects.
Maintenance: To keep up with your results, you may need to schedule periodic touch-up treatments. Botox and Jeuveau typically last 3 to 6 months, so regular treatments can help you maintain a youthful appearance.
Additional Considerations
Neuromodulators are an effective way to address wrinkles caused by muscle movement. However, they are not a suitable treatment for all types of wrinkles. For example, wrinkles caused by sun damage or loss of volume may not be significantly improved with neuromodulators. If you have concerns about other types of wrinkles, your practitioner can discuss additional treatment options, such as fillers or microneedling.
