If you start laser hair reduction in New Jersey in these months, you will start seeing amazing results just before summer begins. An additional benefit to starting now is you get most of the pre-treatment preparations out of the way in the easiest months for them.

Timeline of the preparation before the first laser hair reduction treatment:

Step 1: Consultation

Step 2: Refrain from plucking and waxing six weeks prior to laser hair reduction treatment. Shaving is OK.

Step 3: Avoid tanning and using fake tanners one month prior to treatment. If you do go in the sun, ensure you wear a non-bronzing suntan lotion with a minimum of SPF 15.

Step 4: Pre-treatment consultation. General information and recommendation to stop shaving two to three days before treatment.

Step 5: First laser hair reduction treatment (sessions only last 20 to 30 minutes)!

You are most likely going to need three to six more treatments with four to six weeks between each for the full laser hair reduction treatment. Steps two and three should be followed between each additional treatment.

Your Questions About Laser Hair Reduction Answered

Your Questions About Laser Hair Reduction Answered

Warm weather is finally catching up with the season, meaning it’s almost time for swimsuits, sundresses, and shorts! It also means the extra responsibility of shaving unwanted hair. If you’re like most women, you find shaving a burden, especially when it involves razor bumps and ingrown hairs. Luckily, there’s a better way to get rid of your unwanted hair. Laser hair reduction is gaining more and more popularity each year. It provides the peace of mind that you’ll never have to worry about unwanted hair and itchy bumps ever again. So many women and men have been turning to laser hair reduction to get out of their hairy situation, but many do not know how it works! We’re here to help by answering some of the most common client questions.

What is laser hair reduction?

Laser hair reduction is one of the most commonly done cosmetic procedures in the U.S. It is the process of a laser beaming highly concentrated light into the hair follicles. Pigments in the follicles absorb the light and heat up to the point of singeing, which destroys the hair and disables the root from future hair growth.

Am I a candidate for laser hair reduction?

Both men and women are eligible for laser hair reduction. However, the process works best with dark hair. Since laser hair reduction targets the melanin (pigment) of the hair, those with light blonde, gray, or red hair may find the treatment to be ineffective.

What tools are used for the treatment?

At ANU Medical Spa, we use our Cutera truPulse Nd:YAG Laser. This laser is FDA-approved as the most effective, safest hair removal technology on the market. The truPulse Nd:YAG is extremely effective and safe and delivers permanent results. It is excellent for both light and dark skin tones allowing it to be used year round when your skin is tanned.

How should I prepare for the treatment?

Refrain from plucking and waxing for six weeks before treatment. You may shave as often as you like leading up to the treatment. You should avoid sun exposure in the treatment area for six weeks before and after the treatment. Sun exposure makes laser hair reduction less effective and could make complications after treatment more likely.

What can I expect from the treatment?

During the procedure, your treated area is covered with gel and the truPulse Nd:YAG handpiece glides across your skin sending pulses of light to the hair follicle. Patients have reported feeling a mild pinching or stinging sensation.

Following the treatment, the area will be slightly red and swollen but will pass within a few hours. There may be regrowth of hair three to seven days after the treatment, however, these hairs are being shed as a result of the laser. After the treatment, it is recommended to wear sunscreen when exposed to the sun.

How many treatments will I need?

Usually each area takes three to six treatments until the hair is completely removed. The life cycle of hair takes on three phases: growth, regression, and resting. The laser treatment disables the hair that is in the active growth phase. These follow up visits are necessary because not all hairs will be in the same phase of growth.

What areas of the body can be treated with laser hair reduction?

The truPulse Nd:YAG can remove hair from almost any part of the body such as the face, arms, underarms, and back. It is also able to treat sensitive areas like the chest, nipples, and bikini line.

What are the risks of laser hair reduction?

Some patients may experience itching, redness for up to three days, swelling around the follicle for up to three days, and tingling or numbness.

Following the treatment, the treated area of skin will look and feel like it’s sunburned. Cool compresses and moisturizers may help.

What is the cost of laser hair reduction?

At ANU Medical Spa, prices for laser hair reduction vary from area to area:

  • Bikini area – $300 per treatment
  • Brazilian bikini – $400 per treatment
  • Chin – $200 per treatment
  • Lip – $200 per treatment
  • Underarm – $200 per treatment
  • Full back, chest, full leg – price by consultation

Benefits of Laser Hair Reduction

Benefits of Laser Hair Reduction

laser hair reduction

For people who have spent their lives struggling to manage their body hair, laser hair reduction is often the answer they have been looking for. It is a safe and effective way to remove hair from just about any part of the body. After several treatments, you’ll see permanent results, and you’ll never have to pick up a razor or go to the salon ever again. If you are looking for hair removal options and aren’t sold on laser hair reduction, check out this list of some additional benefits.

  1. Add time back into your life. Laser hair reduction sessions only last 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the area being treated, and after a few sessions, you’ll be hair-free for good! That means all the time you would spend shaving is now being added back into your daily schedule.
  2. Save money over time. While laser hair reduction may have more upfront cost, you will actually save money in the long run. You’ll never have to buy razors, shaving cream, after-shave balm or spend money on waxing appointments ever again.
  3. Shave between appointments. For those who wax, you know that you are required to grow your hair out in between appointments. With laser hair reduction, you are allowed to shave your legs if any hairs pop up between your sessions. Hooray for no awkward periods of hairiness!
  4. No more cuts. Let’s be honest – who hasn’t nicked one of their legs with their razor in the shower, or accidentally cut their face while trimming their beard? It seems like no matter how careful you are, it’s never careful enough. With laser hair reduction, you can kiss your razor, along with all the cuts and scrapes, goodbye!
