Fillers are the second fastest growing facial procedure in the United States, because of their immediate results and popularity among celebrities. However, you don’t have to be a celebrity to reap the benefits of fillers – many medical spas, including our medical spa in New Jersey, have certified aestheticians who specialize in injectable fillers for the lips, facial wrinkles, and cheeks. Still having some hesitation? Our medical experts compiled a list of the most commonly asked questions we receive from patients at our spa.
There are multiple types
We offer four types of fillers at our medical spa in New Jersey, which are all an injectable gel made of hyaluronic acid:
- Juvederm Voluma XC – adds volume and lift to the cheek area, making them look fuller and more defined.
- Juvederm XC – designed for moderate to severe facial wrinkles, including lines around the nose and mouth.
- Juvederm Ultra XC – a lip filler that plumps up thin lips, whether from aging or not. It can also smooth moderate to severe smile lines.
- Juvederm Volbella – injected into the lips to correct lipstick lines and the areas around the mouth as well as provide fuller lips.
All these fillers are FDA-approved and safe when applied by a medical professional.
Results last after one treatment
All Juvederm fillers last up to one year, and Voluma XC can even last up to two years. The best part is as long as you receive fillers at a facility with well-trained aestheticians, your results will last without any upkeep or maintenance on your part.
They aren’t permanent
While results last up to a year, you will start to see the fullness deteriorate if you don’t follow up. Once you start to see the results lessen, you need to make a follow up appointment and discuss how much more filler you will need added. If you get Juvederm and don’t love your results, you can also have them removed by seeing your aesthetician and receiving a hyaluronidase injection to dissolve the filler.
Side effects are minimal
Regardless of what type of fillers you get, the side effects remain the same and include:
- Facial tenderness
- Lumps or bumps
- Pain and itching
- Discoloration at injection site
Before you rule out the Juvederm procedures, keep in mind these side effects are mild or moderate and don’t last very long. At our medical spa in New Jersey, we’ve never seen someone with permanent damage as a result of having Juvederm.
It feels weird, but it doesn’t hurt too bad
When you receive fillers, lidocaine will be applied first to ease discomfort. Some medical spas will apply a lidocaine shot, which feels like a bee sting, and others will rub numbing cream on the injection site. Thanks to the lidocaine, the rest of the procedure feels like small pricks and pressure, but that’s it. Most people say the sensation of the filler moving throughout the face feels weird and a little uncomfortable.
You have to be 21 or older
You may have seen Kylie’s Jenner’s lips and thought fillers are for everyone. However, Juvederm is only used for people 21 or older. Since most of the Juvederm fillers are created to smooth out facial lines, the aren’t necessary at a younger age. Also, the safety of these fillers haven’t been tested on anyone under 21 with the exception of Ultra XC, which hasn’t been tested on anyone under 18.
