Using lasers to penetrate actively growing hair follicles, the heat from the laser gets deep into the follicle to cause damage, preventing future hair growth. While the lasers are hot enough to damage the follicle, patients often only feel a mild pinching or stinging sensation. Since hair isn’t always in the same phase of growth, patients need to come back for several sessions to effectively reduce hair. While patients typically need between three and six appointments, the number will vary based on thickness of hair, the area being treated and where the hair is in its growth cycle.
Once the series of treatments is complete, patients are often free of hair, and any hairs that may grow back will be fine and light in color. For people with very sensitive skin, laser hair reduction is a wonderful service because it will make them body hair free without the irritation that often usually comes with shaving.
